Starting a business is something that has come across the minds of many people. Sometimes it happens because a person gets laid off or because there is no room for advancement in their current position.

How are you going to handle customer disputes?
I know what you’re thinking. I’ll never have a customer dispute. We will always deliver exactly what the customer asked for. That’s how things should happen. However, things do happen in business.
You need to decide upfront how you are going to handle these situations. Are you going to offer refunds? If so how does a customer go about getting a refund? These are things that seem silly to think about now, but you don’t want to have a lawsuit arise because you didn’t take the time to plan out your business policies.
How are you going to manage your subcontractors or employees?
This is another big area that gets people tripped up. Many people don’t think about outside help until they are too deep into their problem. Decide early on whether you want to have on site employees or if you want to contract your work out to other business owners. These things make a big difference
When you first start a business the only thing you can think about is how much money you are going to make in said business. Be sure to think about all the things that could go wrong and prepare for them so that you don’t have that many surprises when you do start your business.
You could publish a directory of independent merchants in your city. You would charge the merchant a fee for inclusion and then you would distribute the directory. One great way to distribute such a directory would be to contact apartment complexes and ask for permission to place them in the lobby. This way the apartment complex can provide a service for its tenants and the merchants in your directory get new customers. That sounds like a win-win to me!
