MySpace Launches Profile 2.0. No, You Don’t Have to Switch
For many, MySpace’s profiles have always been a mess: unevenly aligned elements, ugly colors, music and videos playing everywhere (often simultaneously) are to be expected when you click on someone’s profile. On the other hand, one can argue that this is exactly what users want, hence MySpace’s humongous popularity.
Things change, however, and today MySpace is introducing Profile 2.0. Unlike Facebook’s recent redesign, MySpace’s redesign is fully optional and will remain so for a long period of time – MySpace’s official blog mentions years. Facebook’s gradual rollout of the redesign was carefully handled, but there were still a lot of angry users who wanted the look and feel of their old profiles back. Therefore, MySpace isn’t taking any chances here.

As far as new features go, new profile should above all bring speed and better privacy options. New profiles are optimized better and should load faster than the old ones. Furthermore, if the user isn’t satisfied with load times of his MySpace page, he/she can hide certain sections of the site or optimize individual modules to display less items: 5 comments instead of 10, for example.
New privacy options are basically catching up with Facebook, which lets you control practically every aspect of your profile. Now, you can do the same at MySpace; you can set parts of your profile to be public and parts private; you can use friend categories to set which friends can see which items on your profile, or hide your age and last login date. These options have been long overdue and I’m sure that the majority of the MySpace community will switch to the new profiles precisely because of them.
Other new features include easier customization, which means full support for drag and dropping modules around your profile. It’s important to note here that Profile 2.0 will not be more restrictive than Profile 1.0; you’ll still be able to fully customize your MySpace page in any way you like. Finally, something for the standards geeks: Profile 2.0 is now fully W3C compliant.
On the internet you can expect change every now and then. But MySpace switching to new version of profile will have huge implications. All of those

If you are like me and didn’t like the new Myspace 2.0 layout, my personal reason being that I had certain customized theme pieces that didn’t convert correctly. You can actually revert back to Myspace 1.0 by going to Profile >> My Theme >> Revert 1.0
