Neo Technology Commercializes Next Generation Graph Based Database
A new generation of database products and companies is beginning to emerge, and one of the more interesting examples is Swedish-based Neo Technology, the developer and vendor of the neo4j graph based database (graph in the data structure sense). The neo4j product has been in development for over 8 years, and Neo Technology are today announcing a new $2.5M round of funding. The company has been developing the neo4j project as a commercial product, and is now taking it to market with a dual-license model.

A graph database is a more natural method for expressing, storing and retrieving data that does not fit well in a standard Continue Reading
Microsoft starts selling PCs online

In a surprise move, Microsoft has started selling computers and third-party software via its online store.
It’s part of a broader push to try to give Windows the kind of lift that Apple has gotten from its network of retail stores. Microsoft had said it would sell PCs at its brick-and-mortar stores, but it plans to open just two of those this year, including a Scottsdale, Ariz., location that opens later Thursday.
Early on Thursday, though, Continue Reading
Zyrion’s Traverse 5.0 Available Today With Network Flow Analysis Capabilities

Zyrion, a Sunnyvale based provider of Business Service Management (BSM) products, announced today the integration of Network Flow Analysis capabilities into their latest product, Traverse 5.0. Traverse allows its users to drill down into the performance of their IT services in real-time; thus enabling IT and business personnel to not only identify which devices are down or impacted, but also see which business services are compromised.
This new iteration of Traverse includes what Zyrion calls a RealView Dashboard. This feature allows users to see any IT metric in Continue Reading
Jitterbit Releases Version 3.0 Of Its Open Source Data Integration Platform
Jitterbit, a open source data and application integration company, has launched the 3.0 release of its product. The new release includes the debut of the ‘MX’ Enterprise version of Jitterbit, which the company says is designed for especially large enterprise customers. MX joins the normal Enterprise version (which should be suitable for most businesses), as well as the Jitterbit Community product, which is available for free but doesn’t come with support.
In layman’s terms, Jitterbit helps applications and systems that wouldn’t normally be able to ‘talk’ to each other do just that, and it also helps automate some of the more tedious processes involved in data management, like transferring data between applications. Users map out which fields in various applications Continue Reading
Hotmail Co-founder’s New Firm Acquires A Second VoIP Startup: Mobivox
VoIP services company Sabse Technologies has acquired Canadian Internet voice startup MobiVox for an undisclosed amount. The fledgling company provides VoIP calling via existing landlines and cellphones and also enables its users to do conferencing, make group calls, and transfer calls to their home phone from their cell phone.
The young company had raised a single round of funding that amounted up to $11 million nearly two years ago from high-profile investors like Flybridge Capital, IDG Ventures and Brightspark Ventures.
In a statement, Sabse Technologies says it wil integrate Continue Reading
Google Announces Plans for PC Operating System
Google announced plans late Tuesday night to develop operating software for personal computers, initially the downsized PCs called Netbooks. An outgrowth of the Internet search giant’s Chrome Web browser, Chrome OS is also Google’s most direct challenge yet to Microsoft, whose Windows operating system dominates the PC world. Chrome OS is expected to be available in the second half of next year.
Predictably, and understandably, blogs and other publications are making the case that this is a new, major assault on Google’s archrival. Perhaps that’s true, but I’m betting that taking on Microsoft isn’t Google’s main aim here. Instead, I think it’s logical to accept its longstanding claim that, with projects like this as well as the Chrome browser itself and its Android Continue Reading
Apple Wants You To Know Steve Jobs Is Back At Work
Steve Jobs is officially back at work, according to Apple PR. Even though he had a liver transplant earlier this year, a detail which was leaked to the Wall Street Journal and conveniently reported on a Friday night after the markets had closed. Last week, Jobs was spotted back on Apple’s campus and was even [...]
iPhone In-App Purchases Already Leading To The Dreaded Two Words: Bait And Switch
Since it launched a year ago, Apple’s App Store has had a series of successes (50,000 apps, a billion downloads, transforming the market), but also some failures. While plenty of people talk about the abundance of junk apps in the store, I have never seen that as a problem since no one is forcing anyone [...]
Not Only Was Steve Jobs Sick, He Had A Liver Transplant.
There really isn’t much to say here beyond what are being reported as the facts. Apparently, Apple CEO Steve Jobs had a liver transplant two months ago, the Wall Street Journal reports tonight. When you read that, it’s pretty shocking — but not that surprising.
After Apple initially tried to pass off Jobs’ gaunt physique as a minor ailment, Jobs himself came out in January and announced that the undisclosed illness he was suffering from would require him to take a leave of absence from the company. He has been on that leave ever since. But the good news in the WSJ Continue Reading
Browser Wars Continue: Apple Claims 11 Million Downloads For New Safari In 3 Days
Opera may be reinventing the web next week, but in the meantime the browser wars continue to rage on. Apple has come out with a news release claiming its latest browser, Safari 4, has topped 11 million downloads in the first three days of its release. Surprisingly, it also claims over half of those (or [...]
One Definite Advantage Of The Pre Over The iPhone: Push Gmail
Google has a post today on its blog outlining how many of its applications are built right into the Palm Pre’s webOS. That’s hardly surprising given that it’s an OS built around the web technologies Google knows and loves: HTML, CSS and JavaScript. But buried in the post is a little nugget of information that [...]
Kindle iPhone App Draws Closer To Cutting Out The Kindle Middle Man
Amazon releasing a Kindle iPhone app shortly after the introduction of the Kindle 2 was a brilliant move. It seemed to show that the emphasis was on the platform, not just one device. And that it was interested in making its customers happy. Unfortunately, to use the Kindle iPhone app, you still basically had to set your iPhone down and buy books on either your Kindle or the Amazon website. Sure, you could browse to it from the Safari browser on the iPhone, but the experience was laborious to say the least. Today, Amazon changed that a bit, and it may be an indication of where it’s going.
Now, when Continue Reading
Ouch. Microsoft Profits Drop 32 Percent In March Quarter
Microsoft just announced earnings for its third fiscal quarter. Revenues were down 6 percent to $13.65 billion, and net income was down a whopping 32 percent to $2.98 billion or $0.33 EPS. Analysts consensus was closer to $14 billion for revenues and $0.39 for non-GAAP EPS, which Microsoft met thanks to its cost-cutting measures. Still, [...]
Apple’s Mac Business To Shrink For First Time Since 2003 (AAPL)
With the PC market in the toilet, it’s no surprise that Wall Street expects Apple (AAPL) to report lousy March quarter Mac sales growth this Wednesday. (Join us for LIVE coverage and analysis.) But it’s still stunning to see how fast the Mac growth engine has stalled.
The Street expects Apple to report that it shipped [...]

They already account for an estimated 8 percent of international calls, and many of them are increasingly paying for SkypeOut calls to regular phones. Its revenues [...]
